Change offers us opportunities to grow; to become the person we were born to be. Change, however, is not always easy, even when we know itâs going to better our lives. Why? Because it usually involves the release of an old, unresolved issue, an old way of behaving, an old way of thinking or an old way of doing something that weâve attached ourselves to. Itâs a letting go of things weâve been attached toâand that can be painful. Change often comes in the form of pain, so our duty as spiritual seekers is to inquire constantly, âAm I being called to change?â As we know, it is natural to resist or even fear change because weâve grown attached to what is familiar. But, by careful questioning, we can discover those aspects of our lives that, if changed, could bring us closer to our soul-self.
To explore this question fully, I recommend writing it down on a 3x5 card and carrying it around with you for a few days. Meditate on it. Run the question over and over in your mind, âAm I being called to change?â Or, to phrase it another way, âIs there something in my life that I am being called to change?â If you suspect something isnât right in your career, for example, you can ask, âIf there is something in my career that I am to change right now, what might that be?â Through meditation, and through the simple act of paying attention, you may begin to notice signs that had previously escaped you. Hopefully, you will come to some realization before a âMack truckâ runs into you with the element of change flashing in its headlights!
